Taylar TS #8

Date/Time: April 7, 2017; 4-5PM
Location: 1911 Jackson Bluff Road
Topic/Skill: Vocabulary, Phonics, and Spelling
Today, I wanted to do more interactive activities with Christian, rather than worksheets.  We started off by singing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" which he knew all the words to already.  The song was an introduction to a game of Simon Says, which we played in his backyard.  I utilized the terms from the song to play the first couple of rounds ("Simon Says, 'touch your nose'", "Simon says, 'wave your hands'", etc.). He was very good at Simon Says, so we moved on to a game of "I Spy."  He was able to point out the various things I said (like bikes, trees, basketballs, etc.) and was also able to count each of these items correctly when I asked how many of each.  Moreover, he then started asking the "I Spy" questions himself, so I had to identify the objects he was pointing out.  We then went back inside to work more on spelling and vocabulary.  I used the flashcards from our previous session which have both the word and corresponding picture.  I covered up the word, and had Christian say what each picture was, after which I would have him write down the word.  He was able to write the first couple of letters for each word, but unable to finish without myself pointing out the last few letters.  I can see his improvement each week, and he seems to respond best to the actual worksheet activities.  I am going to continue working with him on the phonics worksheets, as well as his spelling.
