For our fourth meeting, I met up with Fahd and his friend Saeed
at the pool/clubhouse of my apartment. Saeed is my friend’s conversation
partner, and she mentioned that he was having trouble making American friends.
So I was very happy to hang out with him and become friends! Saeed mentioned
that his roommate didn’t understand him because of his accent, but I could
understand practically everything he said, which I told him. Not everyone has
the patience to speak to someone still learning English, but I told Saeed he just
needs to find better people. They had gone on a CIES camping trip over the
weekend, so I asked Fahd about that. He said they toasted marshmallows, and he
tried s’mores for the first time and loved them. Fahd said when they camp in
Kuwait, instead of toasting marshmallows, they bring a live cow, kill it, and
cook it! I found this to be morbidly hilarious. We also talked about traveling-
Saeed and Fahd would like to go to Mexico because they heard Cancun is very
nice. I told them to go if they have the opportunity, but to be careful there
because some people will take advantage of tourists- don’t wear expensive
watches, very fancy clothes, etc. This is something that was new to them, so I
felt like it was important to point out. I also introduced them to my
boyfriend, and they all got along very well. We are planning to do a beach trip
together sometime in the future!
