Reading/Vocabulary/Comprehension
This was my 6th session with So Young. I found an article on the history of Bali. I recalled that So Young wanted to visit Bali in the future and she is also very interested in learning about the history and culture of different places. It was a very long article but we finished it halfway through. Interestingly, So Young found this article to be quite hard.
The article was divided into various sections (ex: beginning of bali, european conquest, etc.). So we took it one at a time. We would read one section and then I would ask So Young vocabulary and comprehension questions. For vocabulary, I wanted to So Young to use context clues. So I asked her questions like “what do you think repercussion means?” And later we would look it up to check for accuracy.
For comprehension questions, So Young answered them perfectly. She said she found the vocabularies a lot harder but because the article was interesting and laid out in sections it was easier to answer the comprehension questions. I think it was a challenging but knowledgeable session for both So Young and I.
