Jacqueline TS #9 child

4/15 10-11am

Yesterday I tutored Alex. Last session, he responded well to singing a song, so I started off the morning by showing him my current favorite YouTube song cover, Good Father:

He really liked the song and started humming to it mid-way thru. At the end, I wrote out some of the lyrics and had him fill-in-the-blanks.

You're a good good Father
It's who You are
and I'm loved by You
it's who I am
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

When I asked how he thought "you" was spelled, he said "u". Which is understandable, but I definitely need to work with him more on the alphabet.

Next, we read a book called Ben's Pens: The Sound of Short E. I would read one page and discuss the picture with him, then ask him questions about it.

Ex. Ben shared his pens with Jen.

I would ask, "Who did he share his pens with?" Often, he would look at me confused and so I'd go back to the picture, but I felt that he wasn't really understanding the sentences or my explanation of them.

When his father came into the room at the end of our session, he wanted me to show him the YouTube video. When I did, Alex's face lit up and he started singing along! I definitely think he learns best with music, so I will keep this in mind for our last 2 sessions. During the song, I had him look at the words with me, like karaoke, and he seemed to be following well. I wrote the name of the song down in case he wanted to practice more.
