For this tutoring session with So-young, we continued using the same article I provided for the first lesson. Instead of focusing on vocabulary, we discussed the gist of the article and I went over the comprehension questions I typed up. I thought it was a pretty thought-provoking discussion. The article spoke about violence on college campuses in regards to housing controversial speakers. We somehow ended on the topic of gun control, which was really intriguing to hear her perspective. She was very surprised to hear about our freedoms to carry guns, while I was surprised to hear about how it was illegal to own a gun in Korea! She told me how her friend was called fat by a random guy on the college campus, and that guy had to do community service hours! I cannot imagine a world where mean people got in trouble by the police for speaking rudely/disrespectfully to a bystander. But that's her world, and this is mine....just interesting to hear how different they are!
