April 17th @ Taslima's place
Discussion/Conversation about facebook.
This was my 8th, and last session with Taslima. For this session, I decided to do something less instructive. We decided to discuss the topic of Facebook. I asked the discussion question: Do you think Facebook has made people closer? What are some good things about Facebook? What are some bad things about Facebook?
We discussed the topic mutually. So I asked Taslima but I also participated with my views. Taslima thinks Facebook has made people closer and she personally thinks it helps her stay close with her family members. I, on the other hand, think while Facebook has some amazing perks — it really doesn’t build real communication.
While sharing my thoughts, I noticed Taslima making some notes in her notebook. She asked me what I meant when I said, “lack of”. So I gave her a few example sentences using the term. Afterwards, I corrected a few main errors in Taslima’s conversation. She had said a few sentences were the subject was misplaced. She also had a few article errors. Overall, it was an interesting conversation! I also got to learn that Taslima loves online shopping and gets many good recommendations on Facebook.
It was bittersweet to part with Taslima and her kids. They were always very welcoming whenever I went to visit. Before leaving I gave Taslima some online resources where she can continue practicing her english. I found a website with a lot of dialogue role-plays and asked Taslima to practice these with her kids. The more she speaks the better she will get.
Before leaving, Taslima gave me a big hug. She said there are many things she wanted to say, but she doesn’t know how she can say them all. I asked her if I can give her number to my conversation partner. My conversation partner and her can meet each other and continue practicing speaking! I will miss Taslima but hope to keep in touch with her!
