On Monday 12 April, I met with Abdullah for the second time.
To improve his fluency, I asked him what he had done since we last met. He told
me that he went on a camping trip with a few people from CIES. He couldn’t remember
where exactly they went. They apparently slept in tents, which he said were
crowded, there being six or seven cramped in one of them. He told me about how he
used to go camping in Kuwait. His only complaint was that you couldn’t go
fishing on camping trips there, because the country contained few bodies of
water. While Abdullah was speaking, he made a few pronunciation errors, and
sometimes did not enunciate. I corrected him in these instances of error, and
he was appreciative of me, because he was scheduled to retake his test and was
worried about its speaking assessment, on which he had scored poorly his first
try.
