Kim TS #15

I had my final tutoring session with my adult tutee on Tuesday April 18 at 12 pm. Modibo and I sat in the courtyard of the CIES building and practiced speaking skills. I asked Modibo lots of questions about his upcoming trip back home to Mali for the summer. He is looking forward to seeing his parents and to meeting his nephew for the first time. We talked about how hot it is in Africa during the summer and bonded over how much time we will both spend swimming during the long hot days of summer. It was a really lovely and casual way to spend our last meeting together. I explained the term 'bittersweet' to him and he told me that's how he feels about the semester being over. He is very excited to return home to Mali to spend time with his family and friends but is worried that he will forget everything that he has learned over these last 4 months at CIES. We exchanged email addresses with plans to keep in touch while he is away and we hope to schedule times to chat via Skype so he can practice speaking. I am going to miss meeting him every week but I am really happy that he will get to see his family before coming back to Tallahassee to start classes at TCC. Over the past 8 tutoring sessions I have seen lots of growth in Modibo's English skills and I know his skills will only improve over time.
