Tutoring Session #6 (adult) with Dasom
Date/Time:
03/31/17, 3:00-4:00pm
Location:
CIES Courtyard
Topic/Skill:
Present Perfect
Dasom and I met for the second time and we practiced a bit of the present perfect tense using helpful exercises I found on this website. I mostly utilized the 1st and 3rd prompts: 'great accomplishments' and 'how many times since'. I asked her questions that lent themselves to responses in the present perfect tense, modeling a couple of answers for her to begin with. I found that Dasom was still acting very shy, it seemed like she knew the answers to the questions but was embarrassed. I tried to focus on making her feel comfortable speaking freely and allowed the conversation to wander in whatever direction seemed to elicit the most active communication from her. We talked about her plans to study politics and that opened up discussion of domestic politics in South Korea and how they compare to the American political milieu. By the end of the conversation I felt Dasom was more at ease and we made plans to meet again the next day.
