Kim TS #16

I had my final tutoring session with Amidu and his siblings on Tuesday April 20 at 7 pm. When I arrived they all seemed to be in very good spirits. I assumed it was because the baby was sleeping so they knew he couldn't interrupt our lesson :). We started our meeting by watching this muzzy video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZADEEgV228&t=401s. They all seemed to really enjoy the video. Abu, Amidu's older brother, remembered that this video was similar to the one we watched during our first lesson. I was very surprised he remembered the characters. We continued our lesson by playing a little game that covered vocabulary from the video (Who...Where...This...That). I held up random items in the living room that I could find (i.e. various toys, shoes, books, crayons, etc) and asked them which sibling the item belonged to and where in the room it should go. It got a little interesting when the children became possessive over different items and started to argue over who it belonged to. The children (mostly) answered me in complete sentences and placed the items in their respective spots after we discussed where it should go. I realized afterward that our game helped clean up the room a bit, a win-win! We had a little bit of time left so we read a short book from their home library, a Dr. Seuss book called Great Day for Up. It was very level appropriate for them compared to the Dr. Seuss book we struggled to read last week. From the book they learned some new words for different animals including: snail, whale, worm, butterfly, and alligator. This lesson was by far the best we've had so far, the children stayed alert and attentive during our entire meeting and I think not having the baby around really helped their attention spans. They all gave me hugs when it was time to go and I realized that I was really going to miss them all. I am proud of them for all that they have retained and am grateful for being able to tutor them.
