So Young- Skype
April 18th - Vocabulary Review, Writing, and Run-on sentences
This was my 8th and last session with So Young. We continued the exercise we had been doing in our previous session. We reviewed two groups of medium-high frequency vocabulary words. I gave example sentences and identified which part of speech the word could be used in. After a good amount of time reviewing all the words, I gave So Young some writing practice. We did two writing prompts. The first was "Are people more respectful online or in-person? Why?" So Young was given ten minutes to write about this using 4 vocabulary words. After she was done, we reviewed the writing together and corrected the errors along the way. The second prompt So Young did was, "Do our devices bring us together or push us apart?". Again So Young had to use four-five vocabulary words.
In the last portion of our session, I reviewed run-on sentences. I found a worksheet online with a lot of run-on sentence practice. So Young did the worksheet problems and I reviewed each sentences with her afterwards. On the sentences where she was not able to provide a proper correction, I tried to show her how she could make this sentences better while not making a run-on.
I felt like we had a very productive and interesting session. It was nice reading what So Young had to say about the two prompts. I also showed So Young my son on Skype and she bought her favorite stuffed doll and played with him. It was a wonderful experience helping So Young with her English. I wish her the best in her future endeavor. I also told her to let me know whenever she publishes her English history book!
