Taylar TS #10

Date/Time: April 26, 2017; 4-5PM
Location: 1911 Jackson Bluff Rd.
For this session, I wanted to introduce some new vocabulary for Christian while still trying to improve his spelling skills. Previously, we had been using relatively the same vocabulary words, because his spelling skills weren't very good. However, as the weeks past and his skills improved, I wanted to give him some new vocabulary words to test out his new skills. I decided to go with days of the week and weather.  I printed out each of them onto flashcards and, unsurprisingly, he was able to identify all of the weather ones based off the pictures. However, because he had never seen the words before, it was still difficult for him to spell.  His phonetical skills are partly to blame, since he cannot use phonics to predict spelling.  The days of the week were more of a struggle for Christian because he did not know the order of them, even after I had gone over it multiple times.  He was more successful at spelling the days of the week, although the ones like "Wednesday" and "Saturday" were difficult for him. The last activity we did was watch "BINGO" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" videos on YouTube.  The BINGO video was popular among his brothers as well and by the end, all of them were singing along.  When the video was over I had him spell BINGO as well as some of the other various objects in the video.  With "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," I had them watch the video and then provided flashcards that identified each of the animals on the farm.  I then used a TPR style activity, where I told him to color in one of the animals.  Because Christian's listening skills are very good, he had no trouble identifying each of the animals.
