Nicole Tutoring 8

Today is my last official session with Harry.  I will continue to work with him through Athletics after this though. After our last meeting I had to think outside of the box and come up with a way to see if Harry needed help working on his American greetings.  I decided the best way to do this was to have a conversation.  I began asking about home and some of the differences.  Then I asked how he greets people at home - his friends/his teachers/family members/etc.  We then talked about American greetings and I modeled the different (most common) types.  I then went and discussed the appropriate responses.  I shared a story about a time I embarrassed myself by not listening to what someone was saying.  I was hoping that my sharing something about myself it may subtlety encourage him to listen and respond appropriately.    Harry has quite a lot of work to go still and I'm hoping we can work more throughout the summer.  His course load will not be nearly as heavy so I imagine we'll have more time to focus specifically on ESL topics.  He's a great kid though and his work ethic is commendable!
