Last week since Kavira’s
older sister, and my child wrangler as I like to call her, was sick we focused
on review; this week, however, we focused on action words. Our session began
with a kid’s ESL video demonstrating several different common actions words
such as “brush,” “throw,” “catch,” “pull,” “sing,” “dance,” and so on. After
watching the video a few times I had Kavira stand up and demonstrate the
action. At the beginning I would mirror her actions or demonstrate the action
if she could not remember, but towards the end we did a form of Simon Says where
I would go, “Simon Says dance,” or “Simon Says brush your teeth” and she and
her siblings would comply. Since Kavira is younger I have found there are only
two ways to really get her to focus, either show her a video or have her
complete a game/action. Kavira and her siblings really love Simon Says and it has
proven to be a good way to incorporate a few different areas we have been working on
at once.
