Peter TS #7

On 31 March, I went to Umutoni’s house again. I brought with me an English-Kinyarwanda handbook, which contained useful words and phrases in both languages. I noticed that the English words use British spellings, words which I planned not to teach. That day’s lesson dealt with anatomy. I taught her the following words: head (umutwe); arm (ukuboko); hand (ikiganza); eye (ijisho); leg (ukugulu); foot (ikirenge); hair (umusatsi); nose (izuru); mouth (umunwa); ear (ugutwi); thumb (igikumwe); cheek (itama); finger (urutokwe); knee (ivi); neck (ijosi); wrist (ubujana); elbow (inkokola); and ankle (ubugombambali). I had her recite the words, and I would point to the body part she had said. We then switched roles, though I allowed her to use this list as a reference. After some more games like this, I tested her by saying a body part in Kinyarwanda, and she would have to say the word in English. She did pretty well. Next week, I plan on working on these words some more.
