Ever since my first
session with Kavira whenever I am leaving I will always ask her what day I will
see her the following week; the answer is always Thursday. However, whenever I
ask her what day comes before Thursday or after Thursday the answer always vacillates.
So, this week, I decided to focus on the names of the months and days of the
week, and the way in which we write them out. I showed Kavira a brief video
about the names of months and days of the week. Then, I wrote them out on chalk
boards with their corresponding numbers; for example, January- 1, February- 2,
and so on. We then talked about how each month had its own number and how when
we wrote this information out it usually went in a particular order. It took a
while, but once Kavira grasped this concept I would write a date such as
Thursday, 3-18-2004 and have Kavira tell me what the date was. We then talked
about why dates and numbers were important, such as to remember birthdays; it
is fun to note that this was the longest I have ever seen Kavira sit still in a
single setting.
