Kim TS #3

I had my second tutoring session with my child tutee Amidu on March 14 from 7-8 pm. Amidu opened the door for me when I arrived and I was greeted by his soft grin. He welcomed me into his home and immediately sat down to start the evening's lesson. During our meeting we practiced counting to 100, identifying animals, spelling numbers, and we continued working on learning colors. He is struggling with the colors green, pink, and grey. We watched two short videos that I hoped would help him see the many differences in individual colors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Asb8N0nz9OI & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYAWf8Y91hA. I am realizing that colors are actually pretty difficult to teach because of the many nuances in the color spectrum. The several shades found in any one color and the varying hues actually make colors pretty challenging! I had Amidu practice his writing skills by asking him to spell out numbers i.e. ten, twelve, twenty, etc. I was grateful to have the first half hour of our lesson one-on-one to better assess his skill level before his siblings joined in to participate for the second half. The additional children are a pleasure to teach and I think they positively challenge one another to answer my questions correctly. I look forward to seeing them all again next week.
