Jacqueline TS #1 child

Today I was supposed to meet with Alex, a 4th grader, but he was at church during our appointment, so I tutored his younger sister, Francine, instead. She is 6 years old and was familiar with the alphabet, but was very quiet and knew very little English.  I brought some books from the library about the alphabet, and we practiced writing the alphabet and associating words/sounds with the corresponding letters. I also brought Bananagrams, which is basically a game with letter pieces like Scrabble. We used the pieces to find letters and form the alphabet. I helped correct some of the ways she was writing letters (ex. her i was upside down, her c was sideways, she mixed up d/b) and she was very receptive to the corrections. I look forward to meeting her older brother next week. Her father was so thankful for the lesson and was able to speak some English, which was a pleasant surprise! They came here from the Congo 3 months ago.
