Today I tutored Alex and we focused on phonetics. I checked out several books from the library, but the 2 we read today covered the "short a sound" and "short o sound". I had him write out some of the words and sound them out, then we repeated this. He is familiar with the alphabet, but doesn't always know which sound each letter makes. I tried to go very slow today, sounding out each letter of key words, then putting them together, but I'm not sure he grasps this concept yet. I might need to go back to square one next session and go thru the alphabet and the sounds each letter makes.
